My Baby Beardie WONT EAT ANYTHING. HELP PLEASE !?
Hello.
I just bought a baby Bearded Dragon from the pet store 2-3 days ago. It’s roughly 5-6 inches long and I was told it was about a month old. It was in a tank with it’s siblings.
Well we got a 22 gallon tank ( to start – We are currently building an imaculate habitat for it ).We have the Basking Spot and the temp stays between 90-101 Degrees. The Cool Spot stays between 70-80 degrees. Like a dummy – I forgot about the UVB light and went and got one today. It has a little food bowl and water dish, A basking sculpture ( where is sits often ) and the humidity is moderate. We have 2 digi thermometers and the one humidity thermo in there. I have paper towels on the bottom of the tank instead of the sand or other options. We have dropped baby crickets in there (calcium dusted) and little meal worms, and some green veggies:Turnip greens, Kale and minced carrots. It wont eat anything from my observation. Please Help.
I am worried. I know it could be stressed or missing it’s siblings.
I have been in your shoes. Unfortunatly it can be many things. For one has it had any type of bowel movement? This will usually be done in the waterbowl. Too much food in the tank at one time, it will like variety but it may be over whelmed. Take the crickets out of the tank and the veggies and leave just the meal worms. Do you have live worms? Most lizards do not like the canned dead ones. They usually eat at night as they are nocturnal. You may need to go get some plants at the pet store to dress up the cage and believe it or not lizards love company so you may have to go back and buy a “roommate” for your lizard. The papertowels are not a good idea (I know it saves money) but they really need lizard turf. With the papertowel you will have to replace it several times a day and you risk it eating the paper towel.
Finally when you buy a lizard from a pet stre, you risk it being sick. Check out its mouth area and look for signs of mouth rot. If you see yellowish or mucos looking stuff, it needs to be treated right away and unfortunatly there is nothing at the pet store you can buy for this. It is easy for your lizard to catch this as it needs to live in a very humid enviornment. also spray the tank walls with warm water to make it more humid and look up info to be sure the temp is hot enough. You should have two sets of light for day time and nighttime and a basking rock to aid in digestion (without a warm rock their little bellies cannot digest) do not get a heated rock. When you feed them crickets make sure you have gut loaded the crickets meaning let the crickets eat potatoes then feed them to your lizard this will give your lizard more nutrition. Do not put in too many crickets as the ones your lizard does not eat, they could bite your lizard.
