How can I keep a collar on my cat?
He was fine with it his whole life until he turned about one (he is neutered). From then on he figured out to take off ANY cat collar even though I make sure it’s not too tight and not too loose. I need it for identification purposes even though he’s an indoor cat he gets outside randomly and i get really paranoid. I also don’t want to get him microchipped…are there any suggestions??
My cats were also smart enough to get their collars off, but you definitely want to have a safety clip on the collar! If I were you, I would get a cat harness, with no safety clips. This will be okay if he gets caught on something because he wont strangle himself, the only problem is if he gets stuck and cant get off, but Im sure someone will find him. If you do get a harness, be sure to fit it snugly to him so that if he does get caught it doesn’t slip from under his legs and onto his neck.
Micro chipping isn’t a bad idea, but its definitely a hassle. It takes forever just to get your pet registered! And, sometimes it is still registered to the company in the end without you knowing it! Like my dogs was scheduled to the shelter in San Diego where she came from, and I live in Wyoming, so obviously its not that helpful. The shelter in my town doesn’t like to use them either unless you have a very common looking animal, which in that case, it would be used to identify you as the owner. Also, if you do get him micro-chipped, be sure to see where your vet puts it. Vets range on where they put them. They are suppose to put them in the middle of their shoulder blades, but they are often found by their tales, on their sides and so on. So that’s pretty important! I hope this helped! Good Luck!
