Soft Claws Nail

Soft paws-just how will it affect my cat?
I have two seven month old kittens, one of which is tearing up my berber carpet. I don’t know what else to do since I don’t want to declaw him other than to try soft paws since cutting and filing his nails doesn’t seem to be enough. Just how will soft paws affect his nails? Will he still be able to grab his toys to play with them? Will soft paws effectively keep him from tearing up the carpet? Will there be any problem with the litter in his litterbox getting caught under the nail caps?
I want to solve the problem without traumatizing him by a sudden change in his ability to use his claws to play as he is used to. I also want to make sure he is not traumatized especially since at least at first, I only plan on using soft paws with him and not on his more well behaved brother.
They have three scratching posts that he does use, he just doesn’t seem to understand that the carpet is not a fourth one- which I can understand since the material is similar.
They’ll still be able to do everything they normally do, their claws just want cause any damage. :]
And the caps fit snug to the cats claw so no litter should get in them.
He won’t be traumatized lol, he may be alittle off for a few days while he gets used to them :]
