How do I take off Soft Claws?
I use Soft Claws on my kitten, and I’ve noticed recently that her nails are getting longer but the nail caps aren’t falling off. There’s now a section of exposed nail between the nail sheath and the nail cap, and it’s starting to get caught on stuff. Is there a safe way to remove the Soft Claws without hurting my kitten?
Trim off the end of the Soft Claw nail cap, leaving the rest as a tube around the nail. If you just trim off the end part, you shouldn’t have to worry about getting the ‘quick’ or vein in the nail, and it shouldn’t bleed. You can then squeeze on the remaining ‘tube’ of the nail cap and flex it around to break up the glue, and then pull it off the nail. Then encourage your cat to use a scratching post to shed the built-up layers of nail, or you can gently peel off the loose rough layers for her. It should then be safe to apply a new set of soft claws, if you wish.
