Carrier for American Airlines?
I am flying my 5-6 pound yorkiehuahua in-cabin. Although shes small in weight, she is pretty tall and can not stand up all the way w/ an 8.5 inch sherpa. The airline requires it to be no taller than 9″, so i was thinking of getting the medium sherpa, which is 10.5″, over the limit. I know it needs to be able to fit under the seat on the plane. So, anyone who has flown american w/ their dog or cat, can you please tell me how much they enforce the guidelines of being able to stand in a natural position and the height? Do they measure? Do you think I’d be able to fit a 10.5″ under the seat? How tall was yours? Any answers to these questions are greatly appreciated. Thank you(:.
a bigger bag wont fit under the seat.. they are strict on that rule, as it must be able to fit. If the carrier wont fit, the dog will have to go in cargo.. but I dont think they will allow a sherpa bag in the cargo hold, so you will be forced to leave the dog at home.
Im not sure how strict they are on the animal being able to stand.. they may let that slide, if the dog appears to be comfortable, and its a short trip.. perhaps you can call the airline and ask.
