Calling goldfish experts: Is it possible to cycle a 53 gallon goldfish tank using fish waste?

I am getting myself all in a state about moving my 2 goldfish (6 month old blackmoor and fantail) from their 16 gallon to a 53 gallon Rena Aqualife with XP2 filter which arrives in a few days. I will of course cycle the tank correctly and wait out the weeks as well as use some of the other tank’s filter media and gravel for the bacteria but my question is am I really obliged to either add pure ammonia in a fishless cycling method (which I really don’t want to do) or else sacrifice some tank cycling fish to ammonia burns (which I definitely won’t do)? Can I not just use dirty gravel from their tank with their fish poo waste in it-would that not be a sufficient source of ammonia if I keep introducing it in sufficient quantities? Are there any other alternatives?

I’ve heard that that is perfectly acceptable. Your goal is to get your bacterias growing, and using some of your old gravel and fish waste is capable of doing that. Your gravel will contain some of the bacteria you need. So it should work beautifully.
