Can a petsafe cat collar work with the petsafe dog electrical fence?
We just recently had a petsafe dog fence installed for our dog. then we heard that there are cat collars for fences as well. We wanted to know if the cat collars work with the dog fence because they have cat fence packages. Help is appreciated.
I would recommend against electric fences is it’s not really secure at all. While it may keep your pet in, it wont keep people or other animals out. If a dangerous wild animal, person wanting to steal or hurt your dog or cat another aggressive dog wants to have a go at your beloved pet that electric fence isn’t going to stop them.
Also, what often happens is your pet will be running around and playing and accidentally go through the fence ‘line’. While an electric fence will shock him, it wont stop him. Then a dog will be to afraid to come back into the boundaries because they don’t want to get shocked again so your dog is now stuck on the wrong side of the ‘fence’.
A friend of mine was a inspector for the SPCA, and after seeing a few cases of malfunctions, he swore he would never ever use something like that for any animal. To me that just says it all. You cannot think just because one works fine, it always will or that the next one will never malfunction. And cats can climb high up and oget over things too.
A far safer option for you and your cat is to get a cat fencing solution – it cannot go wrong, thereby giving you complete peace of mind. Like knowing the power can go out and your cat is still fine and contained. This concern I heard from someone who used to install Petsafe systems, apparently is happens a lot. Some animals get one shock and wind up so terrified they won’t go out at all. The guy also said “There is a fence there, the cat has to JUMP over the fence. Now it’s on the other side. It’s not like a dog that walks up to a line, hears a beep and then moves because because he’s associated the beep with the shock. Cats take running leaps and there is no turning back.”
Honestly, it’s not like a dog, and needs a different solution.
