Will my cat be okay in her breakaway collar?
I have a breakaway bell collar on my indoor catso I know where she is. She’s fine wearing the collar and only finds it a nuisance and tries to bite it when she wants to groom herself under the collar. Today she got it stuck on her bottom teeth and had trouble getting it off — I used the breakaway and got it off for her. If I weren’t home, would the breakaway detach itself so she won’t get hurt?
The collar is probably too loose. If it’s a kitten, you should be able to put one finger between the collar and your kitten’s neck. If it’s a adult cat, somewhere between one and 2 fingers should fit between the collar and neck.
Oh, and if your cat DOES get it stuck in his mouth, she’ll be just fine – if your cat can get it over his bottom jaw, he can get it back off… if you are really worried about things like that, just take the collar off before you leave if you will be gone more than 24 hours, but everything will be ok!
