What sort of sofa would you get for an avid scratcher (cat)?
Fabric or leather? Also, can anyone recommend a scratch deterrent that is safe for furniture?
I know what you guys mean, as a dietary vegan I can’t believe I’m even considering leather., but my cat also likes to urinate where she shouldn’t and I can’t have that happen. She’s SO loveable. No, really she is, but she makes me nuts.
Fabric. Leather is too expensive to risk being ruined by your cat.
Bitter apple spray is a great cat-scratch preventive, all natural, no stains. It does need refreshed ever 2-3 days for a stubborn cat.
Double-stick tape or better yet, packing tape folded sticky-side out, will keep cats from scratching and/or walking on surfaces. having a few paw-hairs plucked, and the generally strange feeling of ’sticky’ on paw pads is enough to keep cats away from just about anything.
after a few weeks, cats get the idea and the tape can be taken off.
Making sure to have a good scratching pad/stand near by (that has been rubbed down with catnip) will also help redirect the scratching to a much more desirable location.
