Coolant Temp Sensors on BMW 525e help?

I have a BMW 525e 01/1987 model. It has 3 temp sensors on the thermo housing;
as per BMW parts cat;
1)TEMPERATURE SWITCH
2)Temperature sensor
3)Remote thermometre sending unit
The car is blowing a fair amount of black smoke – I have had the air flow meter thouroughly checked (it can be removed as a cause), I dont think its the fuel injectors – as the idle changes the smoke comes and goes.
My question is – can any or all of these temp sensoring units cause the car to blow black smoke?
is one more likely than the others to make it blow more smoke?

black smoke indicates too much fuel. nothing to do with heat sensors. Might want to look at cat converters
